B/R Wrestling Staff Predictions for AEW Double or Nothing 2024 Match Card
AEW is celebrating its five-year anniversary this week by returning to Las Vegas for its annual Double or Nothing pay-per-view.
Some injuries during the buildup forced some changes to the card, but AEW still has a solid lineup for Sunday's event. Here is a look at the card as of Friday morning:
- Team AEW vs. The Elite Anarchy in the Arena
- Willow Nightingale vs. Mercedes Moné (TBS title)
- Swerve Strickland vs. Christian Cage (AEW world title)
- Adam Copeland vs. Malakai Black (TNT title)
- Roderick Strong vs. Will Ospreay (International title)
- Toni Storm vs. Serena Deeb (AEW women's title)
- Jon Moxley vs. Konosuke Takeshita (IWGP title Eliminator match)
- Trent Beretta vs. Orange Cassidy
- Chris Jericho vs. Hook vs. Katsoyori Shibata (FTW title)
- Bang Bang Gang vs. Death Triangle (Trios titles)
As always, we have our panel of contributors here to answer questions and offer predictions.

Erik Beaston
1 of 7Swerve Strickland vs. Christian Cage
Lay out how you think this match will end.
Swerve overcomes incessant interference by The Patriarchy and The Young Bucks to retain his title, setting him up as public enemy No. 1 of The EVPs and The Elite moving into the summer, Forbidden Door, and All Out.
Adam Copeland vs. Malakai Black
What can we expect to see from Copeland on Sunday after what he did to Black on Dynamite?
Perhaps an appearance from Gangrel, definitely violence, and probably a victory. Even if Black would benefit more from the win, especially after being bested by The Rated-R Superstar Wednesday night.
Donald Wood
2 of 7Roderick Strong vs. Will Ospreay
Do you think AEW needs to put a belt on Ospreay this soon into his run?
Ospreay needs the championship far more than Strong. Ospreay is one of AEW's most significant signings, and he should be portrayed as one of the best performers in the business. In wrestling, you prove your worth with superior matches and championship gold. For the betterment of the product, Ospreay should beat Strong and walk out of Double or Nothing the new champion.
Chris Jericho vs. Hook vs. Katsoyori Shibata
How do you see the finish playing out? Who wins and who do they defeat to do it?
Shibata was likely added to this match to take the pinfall loss to Jericho to protect Hook. Jericho's Learning Tree gimmick is smart booking, but he should not steal the shine from the younger talent. Instead, beating Shibata gives his newest incarnation credibility while also setting Hook up to eventually defeat him when no dirty tactics are permitted.
Graham Matthews
3 of 7Toni Storm vs. Serena Deeb
Is this the right time to crown Deeb as champion?
Deeb feels cold as a threat to Storm, especially since Storm is so beloved by fans and AEW clearly doesn't know whether they want Deeb as a face or a heel. Deeb is super talented and belongs in this spot, but she's far from the right person to take the title from Storm. That spot is better reserved for a returning Jamie Hayter or even Mariah May.
Bang Bang Gang vs. Death Triangle
Who do you see getting the win for their team, and who takes the pin on the losing team?
Bang Bang Gang won the Unified Trios titles only last month, so it feels premature for them to lose here, especially to a trio that has already held those belts before. Penta El Zero Miedo will likely eat the pinfall loss here, setting up Jay White vs. Pac in a singles match at Forbidden Door.
Kevin Berge
4 of 7Jon Moxley vs. Konosuke Takeshita
Since the IWGP title is not on the line, what kind of odds would you give Takeshita?
Moxley is a hard man to ever bet against, but Takeshita's odds massively improved with the title not on the line. A +175 line feels fair as he could use this victory, and nothing would be lost for him to pick up the victory and then lose in his title challenge. However, with Forbidden Door on the horizon, it is still more likely that NJPW will want to clear up Moxley's plate for an NJPW-contracted talent to challenge.
Trent Beretta vs. Orange Cassidy
Who would benefit more from winning this match?
OC has more wins in AEW than anyone else in the company's history, over 150. He could lose for a year straight and still likely hold that distinction. Trent has a respectable record in AEW, over 80 with a positive win-loss percentage, but he has never gotten his due on the major stage. Beretta needs this badly.
Mr. Jeff J
5 of 7Team AEW vs. The Elite Anarchy in the Arena
Lay out what you think would be the most satisfying conclusion for this match.
The Elite finds a way to use their corporate power to win. I don't think it's believable to have Team AEW win when they're a ragtag collection of people with little ties to one another. If you told me a dude who got hit by a bus a month ago could come back and win a match, I would ask when his X-Gene activated. The Elite should win in the slimiest way possible (coerce refs, change rules, enlist someone else on the roster to help) to generate more heat for their EVP gimmick.
Willow Nightingale vs. Mercedes Moné
Do you think it would be a good idea to put a title on Mercedes in her first AEW match at the expense of making Willow's reign short?
I don't think so development-wise, but AEW's floundering ratings coupled with massive disinterest in the Women's division necessitate a shot in the arm. Mercedes is one of their most highly touted free agents. AEW hopes it will stimulate business, so now is the time to do it. Without proper storytelling, these moves will be moot.
Chris Mueller
6 of 7Team AEW vs. The Elite Anarchy in the Arena
Who do you see taking the loss for their team?
Since my prediction overall is for The Elite to win, the most likely candidate on Team AEW to eat a pin is Cash Wheeler unless AEW uses the finish as a way to set up a future match between Bryan Danielson and Kazuchika Okada for the Continental Championship.
Swerve Strickland vs. Christian Cage
Is there any scenario where Cage winning the title makes sense?
Honestly, no. Not only would cutting Swerve's reign short be a very bad call, but Cage doesn't need a world title right now. He has so many storyline possibilities in other areas that keeping him in the world title scene feels temporary. Nick Wayne will likely be involved somehow, but Prince Nana could help fend him off so the champ can retain.
