2012 NFL Draft: Trades Teams in Top 10 Should Consider

Ryan RudnanskyJun 7, 2018

You can do all the mock drafts you want, but when draft day comes there's always a trade or two that throws everybody for a loop.

Three teams drafting in the Top 10 have a shot at elite prospects, but would be wise to trade down and grab more picks along the way (generally if you are a team with this bad record you have more than a few problem areas).

Here are some draft-day trades three teams in the Top 10 should consider (in order).

Cleveland Browns Trade No. 4 Pick, Get Seahawks' No. 11 Pick and 2nd-Rounder

The Browns would do well to grab a running back to replace Peyton Hillis. They could go with Alabama's Trent Richardson, but why do that when you could get another elite running back, the Miami Hurricanes' Lamar Miller, at No. 11 overall? Plus, you give yourself another second-rounder and still have the Atlanta Falcons' first-rounder from the 2011 draft.

Washington Redskins Trade No. 6 Pick, Get Bears' No. 19 Pick and Future 1st-Rounder

With their new No. 4 pick, the Seahawks should choose Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III.

That means the Redskins likely won't reach for a quarterback like Oklahoma's Landry Jones at No. 6 overall. Instead, they should look to shore up their offensive line with the No. 19 pick and grab a future first-rounder in the process.

Buffalo Bills Trade No. 10 Pick, Get Redskins' No. 19 Pick and 2nd-Rounder

But wait...

If the above two scenarios happen, the Bills have a shot at giving the Redskins a Top-10 pick anyway!

The Bills would love an outside linebacker, but they really don't have to draft one this early with plenty of bright prospects likely to be drafted later. Instead, they should grab the Redskins' recently acquired No. 19 pick, pick up an OLB there, then acquire another second-round pick.

The Redskins could grab a receiver like Notre Dame's Michael Floyd at No. 10 overall.
