Oregon, USC Among Big Ten Teams Scheduled to Play Friday Night CFB Games in 2024
Fox has unveiled the full slate of Friday night games as part of its college football package for the 2024 season.
The 12-game schedule features nine Big Ten matchups, including new conference members Oregon, USC, Washington and UCLA.
Illinois vs. Nebraska will be the first Big Ten game as part of Fox's Friday night broadcasts in 2024 on Sept. 20.
The Big Ten signed a seven-year, $7 billion media rights deal with Fox, CBS and NBC in August 2022 that started with the 2023 season. Fox remains the primary broadcast partner for the conference, including retaining the rights for the Big Ten Championship Game.
Fox used to primarily air Pac-12 games on Friday nights, but its new media rights deal with the Big Ten combined with the uncertain future of the Pac-12 made this an easy transition for the network.
Former Pac-12 stalwarts Oregon, USC, UCLA and Washington will officially join the Big Ten on July 1. The only traditional Pac-12 rivalry that will be featured on a Friday night game is UCLA at Washington on Nov. 15.
The non-Big Ten games on the schedule include Big 12 matchups between Arizona vs. Kansas State, Utah vs. UCF and the Mountain West Championship Game on Dec. 6.
Ohio State and Michigan, arguably the two most storied programs in Big Ten history, will not be featured on Friday night this season.
Even though Michigan is the reigning national champion, ESPN's Mark Schlabach had Oregon as the highest-ranked Big Ten program in his way-too-early rankings for 2024 released in January.
The Ducks were No. 3 on the list, behind Georgia and Texas. Ohio State (No. 5), Michigan (No. 6), Washington (No. 11), Penn State (No. 12) and Iowa (No. 25) were the other Big Ten programs in Schlabach's top 25.
The last time either Ohio State or Michigan didn't win the Big Ten title was in 2016 when Penn State defeated Wisconsin in the conference championship game.
