NFL Rumors: Cowboys, CeeDee Lamb Haven't Had Contract Extension Talks 'in a While'

Doric SamMay 22, 2024

Dallas Cowboys star receiver CeeDee Lamb has made it clear that he is hoping to receive a contract extension this offseason, but there reportedly hasn't been much progress toward getting a deal done.

NFL Network's Jane Slater reported on Wednesday that she's been told that the Cowboys "have not had any conversations with CeeDee Lamb in a while."

Lamb is one of three star players in line for extensions with the Cowboys this offseason, as quarterback Dak Prescott and edge rusher Micah Parsons are also seeking new deals. Negotiations with Prescott and Parsons have been moving slowly as well, raising some concerns about Dallas' chances to keep the band together.

However, Slater noted that slow-moving negotiations are par for the course for the Cowboys, so it's likely that things start to pick up over the summer.

"They won't talk, they get to training camp and then all of a sudden, deals find their way getting done," Slater said. "I think CeeDee Lamb probably gets done here before camp. I think they're going to have to figure something out with Dak Prescott, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Micah Parsons thing doesn't come to fruition this year."

Lamb is coming off an outstanding 2023 in which he led the NFL with 135 receptions while posting career highs of 1,749 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. He earned his third straight Pro Bowl selection and was named first-team All-Pro for the first time.

While it seems like a no-brainer for the Cowboys to extend Lamb, both sides are waiting for other dominoes to fall. In addition to Lamb, Cincinnati Bengals star Ja'Marr Chase and Minnesota Vikings star Justin Jefferson are also in line for new deals, but they're all waiting for the other to set the market so they can exceed it. It remains to be seen which of them will blink first.
