Nia Jax Beats Lyra Valkyria to Win WWE Queen of the Ring 2024
Nia Jax beat Lyra Valkyria to win the 2024 WWE Queen of the Ring tournament at the King and Queen of the Ring premium live event in Saudi Arabia on Saturday.
Jax was crowned only the second Queen of the Ring in WWE history, joining Zelina Vega, who won the inaugural Queen's Crown tournament in 2021. She also earned a women's championship match at SummerSlam by virtue of her win.
The bracket for the 2024 Queen of the Ring tournament was announced after Backlash, and it featured a nice mix of established veterans and up-and-coming talent looking for a breakthrough performance.
Valkyria did indeed break out on the Raw side of the bracket, beating Damage CTRL's Dakota Kai in the first round, Zoey Stark in the second and former WWE women's champion Iyo Sky in the semifinals.
The Valkyrie was called up to the main roster via the 2024 WWE draft on the heels of a highly impressive NXT Women's Championship reign, which saw her beat future WWE Hall of Famer Becky Lynch for the title.
On the SmackDown side of the bracket, Jax ran through a gauntlet of some of the best women's wrestlers the company has to offer. She defeated Naomi in the first round, beat WWE women's tag team champion Jade Cargill by disqualification in the second round and beat the other WWE women's tag team champion in Bianca Belair in the semis.
Belair hasn't lost often during her time on the main roster, but Jax took advantage of The EST of WWE suffering a knee injury and managed to pull off the upset.
There was a huge disparity in terms of experience and accomplishments between the two participants in the Queen of the Ring finals, which made for an intriguing matchup.
Valkyria is a former NXT women's champion who has made an instant impact on Raw, but King and Queen of the Ring represented her first premium live event match on the main roster.
By comparison, Jax is a former Raw women's champion and two-time WWE women's tag team champion who made her main roster debut back in 2016.
The experience advantage played into the hands of Jax, as she beat Valkyria and added another major accolade to her already impressive résumé, while also potentially setting the stage for a WWE Women's Championship match against Bayley at SummerSlam.
