Tyson Fury Thinks He Beat Oleksandr Usyk in Heavyweight Title Fight, Eyeing Rematch

It's safe to say that Tyson Fury is not happy with the result of Saturday's match against Oleksandr Usyk.

Usyk defeated Fury by split decision in the fight after 12 rounds, and Fury told reporters that he disagreed with the decision, stating "I believe I won that fight." He also confirmed that a rematch will be coming this year with it set to take place in October.

"I believe I won the fight, but I'm not going to sit here and cry and make excuses," Fury said, per ESPN's Mike Coppinger. "I believe he won a few of the rounds, but I won the majority of them. What can you do? We both put on a good fight, the best we could do. ... But make no mistake, I won that fight ... and I'll be back. We've got a rematch clause."

This was the first loss of Fury's career and he now possesses a 34-1-1 record with 24 knockouts.

Usyk also entered the fight undefeated and left with a 22-0 record and 14 knockout victories. Usyk nearly knocked down Fury in the ninth round and the judges gave him the win after two judges voted in his favor.

It was Fury's first fight since October 2023 and only his sixth bout since 2020. The turnaround to an October fight will be the shortest since he fought in September and June of 2019. He last fought twice in the same calendar year in 2022.

Fury had fought to a draw against Deontay Wilder in 2018, which was his only non-win before Saturday's loss. That fight was for the WBC heavyweight title.

Now, Usyk leaves the ring as the undisputed heavyweight champion, at least until the rematch against Fury comes to fruition.
