Tyler ConwayMay 15, 2024

The Brooklyn Nets will retire Vince Carter's No. 15 next season, the team announced Wednesday.

Carter played for the Nets, then located in New Jersey, from 2004 to 2009. He made three All-Star appearances and helped lead the franchise to the playoffs three times during his tenure.

The Nets have retired seven numbers in their franchise history, including Bill Russell's No. 6, which is retired leaguewide.

Carter's former teammate, Jason Kidd, had his No. 5 retired by the franchise in 2013. Drazen Petrovic (No. 3), John Williamson (No. 23), Bill Melchionni (No. 25), Julius Erving (No. 32) and Buck Williams (No. 52) are the other jerseys retired by the Nets.

None of the players who had their jersey retired by the Nets have ever played for the Brooklyn iteration of the franchise.

Carter played an NBA record 22 seasons with the Toronto Raptors, Nets, Orlando Magic, Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks, Memphis Grizzlies, Sacramento Kings and Atlanta Hawks. The Raptors, the franchise Carter is best known for playing with, are yet to retire his jersey.

Carter averaged 16.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists over the course of his career. He will be inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame later this year.
