Tim Howard Goal: Everton Keeper Should Not Feel Bad for Other Goalie Mistake
In soccer, like ice hockey, when a goaltender scores, it's a big deal. It's something to be celebrated, not be ashamed about, and it's why Everton and Team USA’s Tim Howard has no reason to feel bad for scoring yesterday against Bolton Wanderers goalie Adam Bogdan.
From Guardian.co.uk, Howard feels sympathy for Bodgan, saying:
"It was cruel. You saw the back fours and the keepers not being able to believe balls all night, and at the back one wrong step and it can be a nightmare. For our goal I was disappointed from a goalkeepers' union standpoint. You never want to see that happen. It's not nice, it's embarrassing, so I felt for Adam but you have to move on from it.

As you can see in the video above, the wind was howling. Before Howard goes to kick the ball, you see papers getting blown across the field and the ball being moved as well.
But when Howard boots the ball down, the opposing goalie, Bogdan, has time to see where the ball is going to land. It's not like the ball was caught in the wind and then carried all the way past Bogdan.
Instead, the ball lands, takes a large bounce and then is misjudged by Bogdan.
Why should Howard feel bad for the his opposition not understanding the trajectory of where that ball was going to go when it landed?
If anything, Bolton fans should be upset that Bogdan was playing that far out of his net. The wind was a factor all night, so he should have known that a long kick like that was going to get caught in the wind when it hit the field.
Bogdan should have stayed back in his net. If he would have done this simple feat, then Howard wouldn’t have to be in this situation where he has to feel bad for something that he should be celebrating.
The goal in the end didn’t matter, as Everton went onto lose the game to Bolton, 2-1.
If anything, Howard should be embarrassed that he was the only offense for Everton and that he didn’t celebrate his goal. That’s what I would feel embarrassed about in this situation.
