Kevin Durant, Suns' NBA Title Chances Trolled by Fans amid Mike Budenholzer HC Rumors

The Phoenix Suns wasted no time finding their next head coach after firing Frank Vogel on Thursday.

Per Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, the Bucks plan to hire former Milwaukee Bucks head coach Mike Budenholzer to lead a roster with Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal.

The fan response to Coach Bud's planned hiring has not been met with resounding positivity:

One way in which Budenholzer can help the Suns is embracing three-point shooting. They ranked last among all 16 playoff teams this season in three-point attempts per game (26.0) in their first-round series against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Los Angeles Lakers averaged the second-fewest threes per game with 29.4 in their series against the Denver Nuggets.

Budenholzer's teams have never been shy about taking shots from behind the arc.

The Suns need a coach who can make this roster work because they have virtually no path to changing it, barring a surprise trade of someone like Durant or Booker. Governor Mat Ishbia certainly seems comfortable that they have more than enough talent to win a title.

Per ESPN's Bobby Marks, the Suns will enter the offseason with an NBA-high $209 million in salary commitments on the books and a projected $116 million in luxury tax penalties.

Budenholzer isn't going to be thought of as an exciting hiring because of how his Bucks tenure ended. He was fired at the end of last season after Milwaukee became the first No. 1 seed to lose in the first round of the playoffs since 2012.

It can be easy to feel like Budenholzer's teams, especially during his five seasons with the Bucks, underachieved. They were a top-three seed in the Eastern Conference every year, including the No. 1 seed three times.

Despite all of that regular-season success, the only time Budenholzer got the Bucks past the second round was when they won the 2021 NBA title. Coincidentally, they beat the Suns in the Finals to win the championship.

The Suns have just one playoff series win over the past two years since trading for Durant. They defeated the Los Angeles Clippers, who were without Paul George for the entire series and Kawhi Leonard for the final three games, in the first round last season.
