Report: Shannon Sharpe, ESPN Nearing Multiyear Contract to Continue on 'First Take'
NFL Hall of Famer and current ESPN personality Shannon Sharpe is reportedly "on the precipice of signing a new contract with ESPN that will have him staying at the company for multiple years," per The Athletic's Richard Deitsch.
According to that report, the new deal "has not been formally signed yet but all indications are that it will be completed soon" and would see Sharpe continue to make appearances on First Take alongside potentially appearing on the network's NFL programming.
The deal is reportedly believed to be a four-year pact.
Sharpe currently appears on the Monday and Tuesday editions of First Take next to host Molly Qerim and franchise pillar Stephen A. Smith. He previously appeared on FS1's Undisputed for seven years alongside Skip Bayless.
He also hosts theClub Shay Shay podcast.
Before his media career, Sharpe played 14 NFL seasons for the Denver Broncos (1990-99, 2002-03) and Baltimore Ravens (2000-01), registering 815 catches for 10,060 yards and 62 touchdowns. He was an eight-time Pro Bowler, four-time first-team All-Pro, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2011.
During his career he became the all-time leader in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns among tight ends, though the first two records were later broken by Tony Gonzalez, and his touchdown mark was surpassed by Antonio Gates.
Now, it appears he'll be remaining with ESPN for at least several more years.
