Pat Beverley's Exchange with Pacers Fans Investigated by Police; Video Being Reviewed

Joseph ZuckerMay 8, 2024

The exchange between Milwaukee Bucks guard Patrick Beverley and Indiana Pacers fans is now the subject of a police investigation, according to Shams Charania and Mike Vorkunov of The Athletic.

In the fourth quarter of Milwaukee's Game 6 loss to the Indiana Pacers in the first round, Beverley twice threw a basketball toward Pacers fans seated behind the Bucks bench.

Seemingly referencing the criticism he was receiving, Beverley posted "Not Fair at all" on X over a video of the incident. He added that the Bucks had "asked for help all night," which apparently wasn't provided.

The 35-year-old followed up on his podcast to say the fan's comment was "more than Cancún on three," referencing a report to that effect from Charania.

A police investigation feels like an unnecessary step for something that ultimately wasn't that serious. One thing it might achieve, though, is shedding some light on what led Beverley to throw the ball into the stands in the first place.

The local authorities aren't the only entity with which the three-time All-Defensive honoree has found himself in hot water.

The NBA is also looking into the matter and a suspension for Beverley to open the 2024-25 season seems plausible.

His burgeoning media career took a hit as well thanks to his snubbing of ESPN producer Malinda Adams in the locker room after the game. He told her he wasn't going to answer her question because she doesn't subscribe to his podcast.

ESPN denied what it described as an "erroneous report" about Beverley being banned from its airwaves, though the network may not feel all that inclined to put him in a studio anytime soon.
