Liv Morgan Beats Becky Lynch for Women's World Title in WWE Shocker 1 Month After Win

Mike ChiariMay 25, 2024

Liv Morgan defeated Becky Lynch at WWE King and Queen of the Ring in Saudi Arabia on Saturday to win the Women's World Championship.

Judgment Day member Dominik Mysterio showed up at ringside during the match and slid a steel chair into the ring in an apparent effort to help Lynch beat Morgan, but the move backfired.

Morgan hit The Man with a DDT onto the chair and then executed her Oblivion finisher to win the second women's title of her career.

The sequence of events left Judgment Day's Damian Priest more than a little dismayed:

Rhea Ripley beat Lynch at WrestleMania 40 to retain the women's world title and extend her reign beyond the one-year mark, but after Morgan attacked her on the ensuing episode of Raw, the Australian had to vacate the title due to an injury suffered during the altercation.

With Ripley on the shelf, a Battle Royal involving the entire Raw women's roster was booked with the winner becoming the new women's world champion.

Lynch and Morgan were widely viewed as the top two contenders, so it came as little surprise that they were the final two competitors in the match.

While Morgan had The Man on the brink of elimination, the Irish wrestler prevailed, making her a seven-time women's champion on the WWE main roster.

As for Morgan, the loss marked the continuation of her recent trend of falling just short in huge matches.

She was the runner-up in each of the past two women's Royal Rumble matches, and she was also the runner-up in an Elimination Chamber match this year that saw Lynch win to earn a WrestleMania 40 title shot against Ripley.

Those close calls, plus the fact that The Eradicator put her on the shelf last year, prompted Morgan to go on the "Liv Morgan Revenge Tour" in an effort to win her second career women's title.

Shortly after her loss in the Battle Royal, Morgan pressed Lynch for a title opportunity, suggesting she owed her one since she was the reason Ripley had to vacate the championship.

Morgan scored an impressive victory over Nia Jax shortly thereafter to solidify her No. 1 contender status, and she also started to show off a villainous side, as she ditched Lynch amid an attempted attack by Damage CTRL.

As a result, there was no love lost between Lynch and Morgan at King and Queen of the Ring, and it was the latter who finally got her revenge and became women's champion for a second time.
