Report: Cowboys Legend Michael Irvin's NFL Network Contract Won't Be Renewed for 2024

Mike ChiariMay 3, 2024

Legendary Dallas Cowboys wide receiver and Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Irvin is reportedly set to depart NFL Network.

According to Ryan Glasspiegel of the New York Post, the NFL will not renew Irvin's contract with NFL Network.

The move is part of cost-cutting measures being made by the league-owned network. An NFL spokesperson told A.J. Perez of Front Office Sports that the cuts are meant to "ensure the continued strength of our game and the business."

Perez added that NFL Network is expected to have an "altered programming schedule" during the 2024 season in the wake of the cuts.

Irvin, 58, had been with NFL Network since 2009, primarily as an analyst on GameDay Morning, which is NFL Network's weekly pregame show.

Before joining NFL Network, Irvin also had a significant role at ESPN as an NFL analyst, appearing regularly on Sunday NFL Countdown.

Irvin's time at NFL Network was not without incident, as he was removed from Super Bowl coverage in February 2023 after a female hotel employee in Arizona accused him of making lewd comments.

After denying any wrongdoing, Irvin reached a settlement in a $100 million defamation lawsuit he filed against Marriott hotels, and he was reinstated by NFL Network in September 2023.

Irvin was one of the best wide receivers of his era, spending his entire 12-year NFL career with the Cowboys after starring collegiately at Miami.

In 159 regular-season games, Irvin racked up 750 receptions for 11,904 yards and 65 touchdowns. He was also a five-time Pro Bowler, one-time First Team All-Pro and three-time Super Bowl champion.
