WWE News: Details on WWE's Interest in Signing Numerous Top TNA Stars

Drake OzJun 5, 2018

A running joke among Internet wrestling fans is that TNA (or Impact Wrestling) is a company that relies primarily on WCW and WWE castoffs.

While that is certainly true to an extent, we’ve actually seen a recent trend of former TNA stars jumping ship to WWE rather than vice versa. For example, 2011 saw Kevin Nash, Mick Foley and Booker T all make the move to the WWE.

As it turns out, the WWE could be looking to snatch some more of TNA’s top talent away from the company in the near future.

With the contracts of many top TNA superstars set to expire in the next year or so, there have been various reports about WWE’s interest in these talents. Courtesy of PWTorch.com, here is a breakdown of the rumored names and WWE’s interest level:

Rob Van Dam: WWE is interested in bringing him back.

James Storm and Robert Roode: WWE was interested in bringing in Beer Money together as a tag team, but there’s not much interest bringing them in as singles wrestlers.

Samoa Joe: Despite Steve Austin’s strong endorsement of Joe last year and Joe’s longtime friendships with CM Punk and Daniel Bryan, there is unfortunately little-to-no interest from WWE.

Matt Morgan: The general feeling is that Morgan will jump to WWE when his TNA contract expires next year.

Bully Ray: WWE is interested. No word on Devon.

The Pope: Officials were interested early last year when he was being pushed but not so much anymore.

Ink Inc.: There may be some interest in bringing back Shannon Moore down the road but Jesse Neal is viewed as a developmental prospect at best.

Could we see a major coup in which the WWE signs a number of TNA’s top stars? I certainly think we could, and I’d definitely like to see it happen.

We learned earlier this week that there appears to be a very good chance of Rob Van Dam returning to the WWE when his TNA contract expires in March, and I think the WWE would be wise to bring some of those talents mentioned above along with him.

Obviously, prying Beer Money away from TNA would be a major steal for the WWE. Regardless of the fact that they split in TNA, it could provide an instant lift to the WWE’s tag team division.

However, of all the wrestlers on this list, I’d go after James Storm and Bobby Roode first.

My next pick? Samoa Joe.

It’s pretty clear that TNA has no clue how to use Samoa Joe on a consistent basis and that his long-term future in the organization is questionable.

Why the WWE isn’t interested in him, I have no idea. He’s one of the best all-around talents in the business.

Similarly, “The Pope” D’Angelo Dinero seems to have fallen down the TNA card as well, despite showing a lot when given his brief run at the top of TNA. I think the WWE completely dropped the ball on him as Elijah Burke and would love to see him get another chance with the company.

The same goes for Matt Morgan.

He’s a tremendous talent for a big man. When you look at him, you just immediately think that Vince McMahon would love to get him back in the WWE after he flopped during his first run there.

As for the other talents, I think they’d be best served staying in TNA. Bully Ray is past his prime and wouldn’t be returning to the same WWE tag team division that he left, while Shannon Moore wasn’t overly successful during his last run with the WWE.

Regardless of which of these guys WWE is or isn’t interested in at the moment, though, it will be interesting to see who jumps ship this year because I think most of us can agree that at least one major star will.
