Giants Trade for Carson Beck, Steelers Get Quinn Ewers in ESPN's 2025 NFL Mock Draft

Tyler ConwayMay 2, 2024

The New York Giants passed on taking a quarterback in the 2024 NFL draft, but at least one analyst doesn't believe they'll do the same a year from now.

Jordan Reid of ESPN released his first 2025 NFL mock draft Thursday, which features the Giants trading up to No. 1 and selecting Georgia quarterback Carson Beck. The Bulldogs starter is one of three quarterbacks taken in the first round of the projection, with Colorado's Shedeur Sanders being taken No. 5 by the Las Vegas Raiders and Quinn Ewers of Texas being selected No. 12 by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Beck, Sanders and Ewers each head into the 2024 season with an opportunity to set themselves apart as the QB1 in the 2025 class.

Sanders is the name with the most hype given his ties to his Hall of Fame father, Deion, and the rising Colorado program. He threw for 3,230 yards and 27 touchdowns against three interceptions in 2023, earning early-season Heisman buzz before fading as Colorado lost eight of its last nine games.

Beck was quietly one of college football's most efficient passers last season, completing 72.4 percent of his throws while putting up 3,941 yards and 24 touchdowns through the air. There is little question that Beck has first-round talent, but given the elite supporting cast surrounding him, it's fair to wonder how he'll fare when the windows get smaller in the NFL.

Ewers was one of the most-hyped prep quarterback prospects of this generation and finally started making good on his promise last season. He threw for 3,479 yards and 22 touchdowns against six interceptions, and he'll enter this year with considerable Heisman buzz as part of an improved Texas program.

All of Reid's quarterback matches were relatively straightforward, with the exception of the Steelers. Pittsburgh revamped its quarterback room this offseason, signing veteran Russell Wilson and adding Justin Fields via trade.

While Wilson and Fields are only under contract through next season, that doesn't necessarily mean they're one-and-done. Reid mocking a first-round quarterback to Pittsburgh would indicate he's skeptical either Wilson or Fields winds up being the long-term option.
