Daniel Jeremiah: Drew Lock Has 'Really Good Shot' to Be Giants' QB1 over Daniel Jones

Despite not selecting a quarterback in the 2024 NFL draft, the New York Giants could still have a competition over who will be their starter going into the season.

NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah (h/t NFL Network's Gregg Rosenthal) said he believes Drew Lock "has a really good shot" to beat out Daniel Jones as the No. 1 quarterback on the Giants' depth chart.

"They were comparing Daniel Jones and Drew Lock, emphasis on Drew Lock, to the QBs that were going to be there (at 6) and the line for them was Drake Maye," Jeremiah added.

Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider said on Seattle Sports Radio 710AM (h/t NFL.com's Kevin Patra) they attempted to bring back Lock as their backup, but the Giants sold the veteran quarterback "on the opportunity to compete to be the starter."

When asked about Schneider's comment during his introductory Zoom call with reporters, Lock said it was "conveyed" to him that Daniel Jones was going to be New York's starting quarterback.

Giants head coach Brian Daboll has said throughout the offseason that Jones will be the starter when he's healthy.

"We're excited to have Drew [Lock], and he knows what his role is going to be," Daboll told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero at the annual league meetings. "He's going to get a lot of reps this spring, he needs to learn our system, but again excited to get Daniel back, when he gets back he'll be the guy."

Per ESPN's Jordan Raanan, the Giants made a strong offer to the New England Patriots for the No. 3 overall pick that included their first- and second-round picks this year plus a 2025 first-rounder. The Patriots elected to keep their pick to take Drake Maye.

Jones only started six games last season before suffering a torn ACL. He was having a rough time before the injury with 909 passing yards, two touchdowns and six interceptions.

Lock started two games for the Seahawks in 2023 when Geno Smith was injured. His most memorable outing was on Monday Night Football in Week 15 against the Philadelphia Eagles when he led a 92-yard drive that was capped off by Jaxon Smith-Njigba's touchdown catch with 33 seconds remaining for a 20-17 win.

The Giants finished third in the NFC East with a 6-11 record. They averaged the third-fewest points (15.6) and fourth-fewest yards per game (280.0) last season.
