Jarvis Landry to Join Jaguars' Rookie Camp amid Injury Rehab as WR Eyes Landing Spot

Tyler ConwayApr 29, 2024

Veteran wide receiver Jarvis Landry will attend Jacksonville Jaguars rookie minicamp this week as he attempts to make a comeback.

Landry went unsigned during the 2023 season. He last played for the New Orleans Saints in 2022 but was limited to nine games due to an ankle injury.

The nine-year veteran worked out for the Indianapolis Colts in December but was not picked up.

One of the NFL's premier possession receivers during his peak, Landry saw his numbers take a noticeable decline before his one-year stint in New Orleans. After setting a career high with 1,174 receiving yards in 2019, Landry saw his targets, receptions and yardage dip each of the next three seasons.

The Jaguars lost top wideout Calvin Ridley in free agency but already addressed the position in free agency (Gabe Davis) and the draft (Brian Thomas Jr.). They also have incumbent Christian Kirk on the roster.

Kirk spends most of his snaps lining up in the slot, which would make Landry a bit redundant.

It's likely Landry is participating in Jaguars camp simply as an opportunity to show he still has something left in the tank. If he's impressive, Jacksonville won't be the only team showing interest, and Landry might be able to find a situation where he's a better fit.

As it stands, Landry looked like he was on his last legs in New Orleans, so it'll be curious to see if a year out of the sport was enough to serve as a rejuvenation.
