Wolves HC Chris Finch Ruptures Patellar Tendon After Collision in Game 4 vs. Suns

The Minnesota Timberwolves finished their first-round sweep of the Phoenix Suns with a 122-116 win on Sunday, but it wasn't all good news for the victors.

The Timberwolves confirmed after the game that head coach Chris Finch ruptured the patellar tendon in his right knee, according to Chris Hine of the Star Tribune.

Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium initially reported that the fear was that Finch suffered a torn patellar tendon in his knee from a late-game collision with point guard Mike Conley on the sidelines.

Finch was helped off the floor, and assistant coach Micah Nori finished the game in his role.

"They're evaluating him now," Nori told reporters after the win. "We're not sure. It's kinda like hockey, lower-body injury, right?"

The play happened in the final minutes when Conley ran into Devin Booker, which knocked him into Finch. The coach immediately grabbed his knee and remained on the floor in the aftermath.

Timberwolves players and coaches surrounded him before he was helped off the floor.

At least Finch can take solace knowing his team won.

Anthony Edwards was unstoppable on the way to 40 points, nine rebounds, six assists, two blocks and one steal on 13-of-23 shooting from the floor and 7-of-13 shooting from deep. He had just nine points at halftime but put his team on his back for extended stretches and was the best player on the floor in the winning moments.

Now the Timberwolves will play the winner of the series between the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Lakers in the second round as their coach deals with an injury.
