Jalen Brunson on Knicks' Playoff Record 47 Points: 'I'll Look Back When I Retire'

Andrew PetersApr 28, 2024

Jalen Brunson had a historic game against the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday, but the New York Knicks star isn't soaking up the accomplishment just yet.

Brunson dropped 47 points and 10 assists, marking a playoff career-high and the most points ever by a Knick in a playoff game. His performance led New York to a 97-92 win that gives it a 3-1 lead in the series.

He's not worried about what he did on Sunday anymore though, as he'll now shift his focus to closing out the series.

"I'll look back when I retire," Brunson said. "Seriously, this is great right now, helped us get the win, but it's not gonna do anything for us going forward."

Brunson passed an elite player to notch the Knicks' playoff scoring record. His 47 points gave him the title over Bernard King, who dropped 46 points twice in 1984.

The star point guard has had a turnaround after a frustrating start to the series. He notched 22 and 24-point nights in Games 1 and 2, but he did it at efficient marks of 30.8 percent and 27.6 percent from the field, respectively.

Since the poor shooting nights, Brunson put up 39 points in Game 3 and his historic total on Sunday in Game 4.

Now, New York has a 3-1 lead and is on the verge of closing out the series on Tuesday. If Brunson can finish off the 76ers with another scoring outburst, he'll further submit his name in the Knicks' history book.
