Chargers Fans Hype Ladd McConkey as Jim Harbaugh Gets Herbert WR Help After Trade
The Los Angeles Chargers added a weapon for quarterback Justin Herbert in the second round of the 2024 NFL draft, selecting former Georgia wide receiver Ladd McConkey.
The Chargers traded up to the No. 34 pick in order to do so, sending the No. 37 and No. 110 picks to the New England Patriots while also receiving the No. 137 selection (via ESPN's Mike Reiss).
After an offseason that contained the trade of Keenan Allen and the free agency departure of Mike Williams, Los Angeles was in need of wide receiver help entering the draft.
McConkey should immediately contribute in head coach Jim Harbuagh's offense, as he played an important role on a Bulldogs team that lost only one game in 2023. Although he recorded just 478 receiving yards in nine games, his route-running ability combined with his speed allowed him to haul in deep receptions all year long.
This includes his stellar performance against Florida on Oct. 28, racking up 135 yards and a touchdown on just six receptions. It isn't difficult to picture McConkey becoming one of Herbert's favorite targets in 2024.
Fans and former players alike were excited with the selection.
The Chargers have focused on building around Herbert to start the draft, as they previously selected former Norte Dame offensive tackle Joe Alt with the No. 5 overall pick on Thursday night.
