Jayden Daniels Jokes He's Not Ready to Be Commanders' QB1: 'Don't Know the Playbook'
The Washington Commanders have invested in Jayden Daniels, but the quarterback knows that a long road lies ahead before he takes the field for the franchise.
Daniels was selected by Washington with the No. 2 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and met with local media for the first time on Friday. When asked if he was prepared to take over as the team's starting quarterback, Daniels was ready to pump the breaks a little bit, joking that he is "not prepared" at the current moment.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮
Daniels shot up the prospect pool after a breakout season at LSU in 2023. He threw for 3,812 yards and 40 touchdowns while also rushing 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns. This helped him win the Heisman Trophy and eventually become the No. 2 pick.
He joins a Washington team that desperately needs a game changer at the position. The Commanders went 4-13 in 2023 and got inconsistent play from then-starter Sam Howell. He will have some solid offensive weapons like Terry McLaurin and Brian Robinson Jr, but he will definitely be tasked with providing quite the boost to the unit.
He will contend with the newly signed Marcus Mariota for the starting job, but Daniels will surely have plenty of time to have studied the playbook by the time he is fighting for that role.
