The Minnesota Vikings have selected Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy with the No. 10 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft.

Minnesota moved from No. 11 to No. 10 after making a trade with the New York Jets.

McCarthy finished 27-1 as Michigan's starter over two seasons. For his collegiate career, the 21-year-old completed 67.6 percent of his passes for 49 touchdowns (11 interceptions) and 6,226 yards (8.7 yards per attempt).

He helped lead the Wolverines to a 15-0 record and the school's first national title since 1997 to close out his sensational college career.

The first-team All-Big Ten member is a proven winner (61-3 since high school), and his draft stock has dramatically risen throughout the process, to the point where he was even in the discussion for the No. 2 overall pick.

That didn't happen, but McCarthy safely landed in Round 1, becoming the fifth signal-caller taken after USC's Caleb Williams, LSU's Jayden Daniels, UNC's Drake Maye and Washington's Michael Penix Jr.

Now McCarthy starts the next chapter of his football career with the Vikings. Fans and analysts reacted to the pick.

And with that, McCarthy becomes the heir apparent to Kirk Cousins, who left in free agency for the Atlanta Falcons.
