Cowboys' Jerry Jones: 'I'm Not Ready to Go' on Prescott, Lamb, Parsons Contracts

Julia StumbaughApr 23, 2024

Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones says his team hasn't finalized extensions for its core three players because he's "not ready to go."

Quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb are currently only signed through 2024, while defensive end Micah Parsons' contract expires after 2025.

"If you've got trouble with when the timing is around here, it's because I'm not ready to go," Jones said during a pre-draft press conference Tuesday, per ESPN's Todd Archer.

"You may be working on [contracts] and not moving anything but your eyebrows," Jones continued, per Archer and DallasCowboys.com's Patrik Walker. "Who in the world would think that we're not working on it? I work on it. It pops up at two in the morning sometimes. What you're actually questioning is why don't you have something done and negotiated and put in the drawer?

"Well, we'd like to see some more leaves fall. We'd like to see some more action. It's called option quarterback. I've spent my life [playing] option quarterback. I want to see some more cards played."

Jones then shut down the possibility that the Cowboys could search for a replacement quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft.

"We want Dak Prescott, and that's that," Jones said when asked about finding a quarterback in the draft, per CBS Sports' Patrik Walker.

Dallas holds the No. 24 pick, potentially putting them in range of second-tier quarterback prospects like Michael Penix Jr., Oregon's Bo Nix or South Carolina's Spencer Rattler.

Targeting a quarterback would make sense if the Cowboys expect Prescott to walk after the 2024 season. For now, the plan is to continue working on extensions for the team's current stars instead, according to Jones.
