This Is Swerve's House Now and Biggest Takeaways from AEW Dynasty 2024 Results

Doc-Chris MuellerApr 22, 2024

Sunday night, the men and women of AEW took to the ring in St. Louis for the first-ever Dynasty pay-per-view.

Titles were on the line, grudges were put to bed, and we even got a couple of surprises along the way. Here is a rundown of Sunday's results:

  • Trent Beretta defeated Matt Sydal
  • Orange Cassidy and Katsuyori Shibata defeated Shane Taylor Promotions
  • Bullet Club Gold defeated The Acclaimed
  • Kazuchika Okada defeated Pac
  • House of Black defeated Eddie Kingston, Mark Briscoe and Adam Copeland
  • Willow Nightingale defeated Julia Hart
  • Roderick Strong defeated Kyle O'Reilly
  • Toni Storm defeated Thunder Rosa
  • Will Ospreay defeated Bryan Danielson
  • The Young Bucks defeated FTR
  • Swerve Strickland defeated Samoa Joe

Let's take a look at a few key moments from Sunday's festivities.

The Acclaimed Might Be Done

1 of 5

Max Caster appeared to go off script during his entrance for The Acclaimed's match against Bullet Club Gold on Sunday. Even if it was planned, it felt like a sign.

The Acclaimed was once one of AEW's most popular acts, and while a lot of fans still find them entertaining together, it feels like the group has run its course.

Anthony Bowens needs to get away from Caster and focus on a singles career because teaming with a guy who has been suspended multiple times is not going to help him moving forward.

The trios bout that unified the ROH and AEW titles was fun for what it was, but it felt like the final act of this feud and possibly The Acclaimed as a whole.

Time will tell how all of this plays out, but the one thing we do know for sure is Jay White and The Gunns are going to be more obnoxious than ever after unifying the titles.

Willow Nightingale's First Major Feud Is Already in Motion

Nightingale successfully challenged Hart to become the new TBS champion on Sunday, but her celebration was almost cut short by Mercedes Moné.

Following the win, Moné made her way to the ring for a brief staredown, but seeing as she was in an expensive gown and heels, it was clear she wasn't going to get Physical.

The new champion held up her title defiantly in the face of someone who has been called one of the biggest signings in AEW history. She was not about to be upstaged by someone who wasn't even competing on the card.

The history between these two has been well-documented on AEW television, but the next chapter is about to be told. For now, we can all celebrate Nightingale's big win because a match with Moné won't be happening until Double or Nothing on May 26.

AEW confirmed the upcoming bout with a graphic during Nightingale's celebration.

Hook May Be Leaving AEW

3 of 5

A recent report from SEScoops said Hook was considering his free agency options when his AEW contract expires, and Sunday's match against Jericho may be a hint of what his future holds.

Hook lost the FTW Championship to Jericho, upsetting the St. Louis crowd and Taz in the process. Losing the title his father created could signal a potential exit from AEW.

There is no doubt WWE would be interested in signing Hook based solely on his physical ability and pedigree, but when you add in his popularity, it makes signing him a no-brainer.

Staying with AEW is obviously still a possibility, but if he does leave, AEW can continue using the FTW title. Seeing as Jericho is one of the few active competitors who actually competed in the original ECW, some fans may be okay with him being the one to win it.

Bryan Danielson and Will Ospreay Exceeded the Considerable Hype

AEW has billed bouts as dream matches before, but Danielson and Ospreay truly lived up to those words at Dynasty.

Both men have countless memorable performances to their name, so nobody was surprised to see them put on a show-stealing performance, but they still somehow managed to exceed expectations.

The American Dragon just worked a Bunkhouse Brawl match on Saturday, so to see him put on a performance this physical just 24 hours later made it even more impressive.

When we look back on 2024, this is going to be on just about every list of the best matches because they went above and beyond to deliver an unforgettable match.

Sunday night in front of thousands of screaming fans, Strickland managed to defeat Joe to claim his first AEW World Heavyweight Championship.

Decked out in special Black Panther-inspired gear, Swerve was the heavy favorite of everyone in the arena. Joe is beloved, but you could tell the fans wanted a title change to occur.

AEW spent some time building up the importance to the challenger of being the first African-American world champion for the company through some interviews and video packages, so Swerve's entrance felt even more appropriate.

They had a tough act to follow with Ospreay vs. Danielson and FTR vs. Bucks being back-to-back bangers, but they made sure to differentiate themselves by working a more methodical style and selling each big spot for a long time.

We've officially entered the era of Swerve. Now that he has the title, he is going to have the biggest target on his back.
