Clippers Fined $25K for Failing to Accurately Report Paul George, More Injuries

Andrew PetersApr 19, 2024

The NBA announced Friday that it has fined the Los Angeles Clippers $25,000 for violating the league's injury reporting rules.

According to the report from the league, Los Angeles did not accurately disclose the availability status of Paul George, Norman Powell and Russell Westbrook before its matchup with the Houston Rockets on April 14.

The Clippers did not report the three as unavailable due to injury or rest, yet they did not play in the season-finale loss.

The three players were out of action in the last game of the season with the Clippers already locked into their playoff spot, but since they were designated as inactive rather than taking a DNP, the league handed Los Angeles a fine.

But the Clippers can't dwell on the $25,000 too much as they begin their playoff march on Sunday against the Dallas Mavericks at 3:30 p.m. ET. Los Angeles is looking to avoid a second straight first-round exit, but like last season, it will be a difficult task. The Mavericks missed the playoffs a year ago and are looking to respond with a deep postseason run.

Things get more difficult for the Clippers with star Kawhi Leonard's status still unclear for Sunday's game. On Friday, he was listed as questionable due to right knee inflammation.

Since pairing Leonard and George together ahead of the 2019-20 season, Los Angeles has reached the Western Conference Finals once but is still looking to get over the hump and reach the Finals for the first time in franchise history.

If Leonard is healthy, that task is much more manageable.
