NFL Exec on Caleb Williams: 'He's Built Different' Than Panthers' Bryce Young

Like Bryce Young, the No. 1 pick of the 2023 draft, prospective top 2024 selection Caleb Williams is smaller than the average NFL quarterback.

The difference is that Williams is "built different" than Young, according to one AFC executive speaking with NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

"The only thing you really don't like, just strictly on the player, is the height," the AFC executive said. "He is reckless. He does some crazy s---. But at the same time, he creates a lot of big plays. I think you're just gonna have to live with a little bit of that.

"A lot of arm talent. He's shorter. He's built different than Bryce was. He's got more thickness to himself. Real confident and instinctive, and you can feel that on tape."

Williams measured in at around 6-foot-1 and 214 pounds at the 2024 scouting combine, while Young clocked in at just over 5-foot-10 and 204 pounds in 2023.

NFL quarterbacks averaged of 6-foot-3 as of last season, but several current stars including the San Francisco 49ers' Brock Purdy, Philadelphia Eagles' Jalen Hurts and Miami Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa measure in well under that average.

The Chicago Bears, who are projected to select Williams with the No. 1 pick, will hope the former USC quarterback's electric college tape means he is ready to join Purdy, Hurts and Tagovailoa as another success story despite his physical stature.
