Dolphins GM: Odell Beckham Jr. Contract Not 'Imminent' in 2024 NFL Free Agency

Even though the Miami Dolphins have interest in Odell Beckham Jr., the three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver isn't necessarily getting close to a deal with the club.

General manager Chris Grier told reporters on Tuesday there is "nothing imminent" with Beckham, even though they have made a contract offer to the wideout.

There have been rumblings about Beckham and the Dolphins in recent weeks, though it's unclear how strong the interest from either side actually is.

Head coach Mike McDaniel said last month things "went great" when Beckham visited the Dolphins and they made him an offer, but there was no indication anything was close.

Beckham had to quiet down rumors about him possibly signing with a message on X posted on April 5.

Per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the two sides "never significantly closed the gap on their different financial visions for a contract."

It's unclear what type of deal Beckham is looking for at this stage of his career. He played on a one-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens that guaranteed him $15 million last season.

Beckham didn't have a standout year in Baltimore after missing all of 2022 recovering from a torn ACL. He did average a career-high 16.1 yards per reception, but he only caught 35 passes for 565 yards and three touchdowns.

The Ravens played Beckham for fewer than 50 percent of their offensive snaps in seven of 19 games last season, including the playoffs. He didn't play more than 60 percent of the offensive snaps in any game after Week 1.

Cap issues forced the Dolphins to take huge roster hits in free agency. They lost Christian Wilkins, Robert Hunt, Andrew Van Ginkel, Brandon Jones, Deshon Elliott, Raekwon Davis and Jerome Baker.

Miami currently has just $3.1 million in cap space available. The receiver depth chart is still strong at the top with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. Braxton Berrios is in line to be the No. 3 option and play in the slot.

The Dolphins have made the playoffs in each of McDaniel's first two seasons as head coach, losing in the wild-card round both times. They are still seeking their first postseason victory since Dec. 30, 2000.
