CeeDee Lamb, Justin Jefferson, Ja'Marr Chase's Projected Contracts After DeVonta Deal

Scott PolacekApr 15, 2024

DeVonta Smith is going to be catching passes for the Philadelphia Eagles for years to come thanks to a development that will surely make other wide receivers around the league happy as well.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Monday that Smith and the Philadelphia Eagles agreed to a three-year, $75 million contract extension that features $51 million in guarantees.

It will keep him with the Eagles through the 2028 campaign and allow him to build on the back-to-back seasons of more than 1,000 receiving yards he just posted in 2022 and 2023. From Philadelphia's perspective, it signed one of its most important offensive playmakers to a long-term deal at just 25 years old before the market resets at the wide receiver position.

And it might in the near future.

Justin Jefferson and CeeDee Lamb are both scheduled to be unrestricted free agents after the 2024 season, while Ja'Marr Chase has a club option for 2025 ahead of potential free agency in 2026.

All three of them will surely command bigger contracts than Smith just signed, as Spotrac illustrated with its market value tools:

  • Justin Jefferson's market value projected contract: Four years, $117.6 million ($29.4 million annual salary)
  • CeeDee Lamb's market value projected contract: Four years, $115.4 million ($28.8 million annual salary)
  • Ja'Marr Chase's market value projected contract: Four years, $104.5 million ($26.1 million annual salary)

It should be noted Chase's next deal could end up being more than that depending on the timing of it. If he turns in an incredible 2024 season after seeing his touchdown receptions drop from 13 to nine to seven in each of his first three campaigns, he could end up making more.

Timing such a season would also be ideal for Chase if Jefferson and Lamb sign massive deals that could serve as benchmarks for his own negotiations.

As for Smith, he will not have to worry about negotiating for the foreseeable future following Monday's deal. Instead, he can focus on helping the Eagles bounce back from their disappointing end to the 2023 campaign and chase a Lombardi Trophy after coming so close with a Super Bowl appearance during the 2022 season.

They added running back Saquon Barkley to an already stacked offense this offseason, meaning opposing defenses will have to account for Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown, Smith, Barkley and Dallas Goedert.

Best of luck stopping that.
