Duke's Caleb Foster to Return for Sophomore Season: '1,000% Committed' to Blue Devils

Tyler ConwayApr 15, 2024

Caleb Foster isn't wavering from his commitment to Duke.

The Blue Devils point guard confirmed he will return for his sophomore season during an appearance on The Brotherhood podcast.

"Me personally, I'm not really in that. I chose a school. I chose Duke. I'm 1,000 percent committed to Duke. ... I can't really see myself playing anywhere else. I'm a loyal guy," Foster said.

Foster averaged 7.7 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game as a freshman. He spent the early part of the season as a reserve but was later inserted into the starting lineup before suffering an ankle fracture in February and missing Duke's NCAA tournament run.

A 4-star recruit coming out of high school, Foster should step into a starring role next season, assuming Jeremy Roach departs Duke. Roach is eligible to return for the 2024-25 season but has not committed one way or another about his future. The team would benefit from having a fifth-year veteran like Roach in the lineup, yet it's probably best for Foster's future that he gets to work as the Devils' primary ball handler next season.

Duke will be on the shortlist of national championship candidates after inking the top recruiting class in the nation. 5-star forward Cooper Flagg, the projected top pick in the 2025 NBA draft, leads the charge and is joined by fellow 5-star forwards Isaiah Evans and Kon Knueppel.

Duke has not signed a guard in its 2024 class, making Foster's return all the more important.
