NFL Rumors: Jared Goff Expected to Land $45M-$50M per Year on New Lions Contract

Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff is entering the final year of his contract, but the team is reportedly planning to reward him in a big way this offseason.

During an appearance on SportsCenter on Sunday, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported that Goff is expected to receive a contract extension worth $45-50 million annually. Fowler noted that while there is mutual interest between the two sides, the deal still needs to be ironed out.

"He wants to be there. Only 29 years old, due to make about $28 million this year, so he's going to have to be in that threshold of $45- maybe even $50 million a year based on the way he's played. So, it's going to take some time to get that done," Fowler said.

Goff helped lead the Lions to their first division title since 1993 last season, ranking second in the NFL with 4,575 passing yards and fourth with 30 touchdowns against 12 interceptions. Detroit made a run to the NFC Championship Game before falling to the San Francisco 49ers.

Goff has endured an up-and-down career after being chosen by the Los Angeles Rams with the No. 1 pick in the 2016 draft. The three-time Pro Bowler found his footing with the Lions, and he doesn't plan on going anywhere anytime soon.

"In hindsight, (being traded to Detroit) was the greatest thing that ever happened to me, for my career and my development as a human," Goff said recently during an appearance on the Trading Cards podcast.
