Alex Pereira Eyes UFC 301 Heavyweight Fight After TKO Win vs. Jamahal Hill at UFC 300

After his triumphant title defense at UFC 300 on Saturday, light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira is volunteering to get back into the Octagon almost immediately.

Following his first-round TKO of Jamahal Hill, Pereira said during his post-fight interview that he would be open to a heavyweight fight at UFC 301, which takes place in his home country of Brazil on May 4.

A fight at heavyweight would be the third division that Pereira competes in amid his meteoric rise in the UFC since his debut less than three years ago. The former UFC middleweight champion said he was unscathed in his fight with Hill, so he believes he's ready for a quick turnaround.

"I want this fight," Pereira said. "I'm not hurt. Nothing happened."

However, UFC president Dana White revealed during his post-fight press conference that Pereira suffered a broken toe while training for his main-event fight at UFC 300. While the 36-year-old described the injury as something he "had to just push through," White doesn't recommend pushing it too far by competing at heavyweight.

"The heavyweight division is nasty," White said. "I don't know if that's the right move for him. He looked damn good tonight in the division he's in."

It took Pereira just seven fights to become a two-division UFC champion, making him the fastest fighter in company history to accomplish that feat. The UFC has never had a three-division world champion, but Pereira's ambition could be enough for him to eventually make history.

UFC 301 is headlined by a flyweight title fight between reigning champion Alexandre Pantoja and rising contender Steve Erceg. UFC Hall of Famer Jose Aldo will also be making his return on the card following his short-lived retirement that lasted less than two years.
