Video: Allen Iverson Names Mavs' Luka Dončić When Asked About Next Face of the NBA

Andrew PetersApr 12, 2024

Allen Iverson has made his pick for the next face of the league.

The Philadelphia 76ers legend named Dallas Mavericks star Luka Dončić as the player he sees becoming the face of the league when players like LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Steph Curry retire.

"Luka is crazy, man," Iverson said on ESPN's NBA Today on Friday. "His skill set is just ridiculous, man. This guy is scoring 70. It's so wide open... It's hard to guard Luke one-on-one, and his skill set is just so crazy."

Dončić has certainly made a case to be the next face of the league through his play this season. He's averaging 33.9 points, 9.2 rebounds and 9.8 assists per game this season and is among the top of the MVP ladder alongside Nikola Jokić and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

Iverson pointed to Dončić's 73-point scoring outburst as an example of why he is on his way to being the next face of the league. Those types of performances have made Dončić a fan favorite as well as one of the most dominant players in the league.

But Dončić's next big hump to get over is in the postseason. Since Dončić was drafted in 2018, Dallas has been to the Western Conference once, but hasn't had much success in the playoffs otherwise.

If Dončić can lead the Mavericks to a deep postseason run, there will be no denying he's the next face of the league.
