Report: Bad Bunny's Rimas Sports Agency Facing 'Significant' MLBPA Punishment

Mike ChiariApr 12, 2024

Rimas Sports, which is an agency launched last year by award-winning musician Bad Bunny, is reportedly facing discipline from the Major League Baseball Players Association.

According to Brittany Ghiroli of The Athletic, the exact violations committed by Rimas Sports are unknown, but the agency is facing a "significant punishment," including the revocation of at least one license.

Per Ghiroli, Rimas Sports has two certified agents, and ESPN's Alden González reported Friday that the lead agent, William Arroyo, had his MLBPA certification revoked after an investigation into Rimas Sports providing improper benefits.

Rimas Sports launched as part of a partnership with Rimas Entertainment, and it features Bad Bunny, Rimas Entertainment executive Noah Assad and Rimas Sports president Jonathan Miranda in positions of power.

Baseball Hall of Fame catcher Iván Rodríguez is also part of the agency as a sports ambassador.

According to Ghiroli, other agencies complained to the MLBPA about Rimas, and one of the complaints related to Rimas offering "large sums of money, cars and other incentives" to get players to switch agencies, which is a clear violation of MLBPA rules.

It was also alleged that Rimas allowed people who were not certified agents to act as agents, which is expected to result in those people not being granted certified agent status by the MLBPA.

Bad Bunny's involvement brings a great deal of prominence to Rimas Sports since the 30-year-old from Puerto Rico is one of the biggest recording artists in the world.

He has also gained an even bigger following through his involvement with WWE, which included him in a wrestling match against current world heavyweight champion Damian Priest last year at Backlash in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Bad Bunny is especially popular among Spanish-speaking people, which ties into Rimas Sports' focus on representing Latin ballplayers.

Several MLB players are represented by Rimas Sports, including New York Mets catcher Francisco Álvarez and infielder Ronny Mauricio, Cincinnati Reds infielder Santiago Espinal, Colorado Rockies outfielder Yonathan Daza, San Francisco Giants infielder Wilmer Flores, Oakland Athletics infielder Jordan Díaz and Baltimore Orioles infielder Liván Soto.

Ghiroli noted that players impacted by the sanctions against Rimas Sports have already been informed by the MLBPA.
