Video: Tom Brady 'Not Opposed' to Ending NFL Retirement, Names Patriots, Raiders

Tom Brady is 46 years old and hasn't played in the NFL since the 2022 season, but fans apparently shouldn't completely close the door on any comeback hopes.

"I'm not opposed to it," the all-time great said when asked during an appearance on DeepCut with VicBlends if he would consider a late-season comeback if the right situation presented itself. Brady also mentioned the New England Patriots and Las Vegas Raiders as hypothetical scenarios.

"If they would—I don't know if they're going to let me if I become an owner of an NFL team. But I don't know. I don't know. I'm always going to be in good shape, always going to be able to throw the ball."

Brady mentioning his bid to join NFL team ownership is notable, as he has been making progress toward becoming a minority owner of the Raiders.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported on the situation in February and noted "Brady's pending investment in the Raiders was recently altered to reflect the proper valuation of the team, and league sources say he has reached the threshold to clear the NFL's hurdles and officially join the ranks of ownership."

That would eliminate him from competing as a player, as players are not allowed to own equity in NFL teams.

Rapoport and Pelissero also reported that Brady, who is also slated to become a broadcaster for Fox during the 2024 campaign, has acted as an unofficial advisor to Raiders owner Mark Davis even as his investment was being evaluated.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell discussed Brady's bid to become a minority owner of the Raiders in March.

"I wouldn't say it's a delay," Goodell told reporters. "We go through a very thorough process. ... We're just going through our process. We've been in touch with their side. I think it's been making progress."

While a comeback seems like beyond a long shot at this point, especially as he trends toward joining the ownership side, it is still something he has surely thought about at times.

The seven-time Super Bowl champion was still one of the league's best quarterbacks in 2022 when he completed 66.8 percent of his passes for 4,694 yards, 25 touchdowns and nine interceptions while leading the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to an NFC South crown. He could also probably play a few late-season and playoff games if needed even if he doesn't come back for a full campaign.

But that is still quite unlikely at this point.
