Tiger Woods is set to play for the first time in 2024 at the 88th Masters Tournament this week, and he revealed to reporters during a press conference Tuesday that his body didn't allow him to return as soon as he previously hoped.

"I wasn't ready to play. My body wasn't ready, my game wasn't ready," Woods told reporters. "Now we have major championships every month from here until July, so hopefully that once-a-month kicks in."

Woods added that he believes he has a chance to win this weekend in Augusta, Georgia.

"If everything comes together, I think I can get one more," he said.

Woods is a five-time Masters champion, most recently winning in 2019 when he famously edged Francesco Molinari to capture the green jacket. He has made the cut at the Masters 23 consecutive times, which ties him with Gary Player and Fred Couples for the record.

At 48 years old, Woods is dealing with a significant toll on his body whenever he plays a golf tournament. He has dealt with ankle and leg issues since his serious car accident in February 2021 that resulted in compound fractures in his right leg as well as a shattered ankle.

When asked about how the uneven lies at Augusta National could affect his ankle, Woods replied, "Every shot that's not on a tee box is a bit of a challenge." He was later asked about how he feels when he's not playing and responded, "I ache every day."

Woods added that he's focused on getting through this week, and after that, he will determine whether he wants to pursue the captaincy for next year's U.S. Ryder Cup team.

Despite his ailments, Woods is one of the greatest golfers of all time, and fans will certainly be excited to see him walking the green at Augusta National once again.
