Video: Red Sox Legend Manny Ramirez Jokes He's Eyeing MLB Return to Pursue 3K Hits

Boston Red Sox legend Manny Ramirez hasn't played an MLB game since 2011, but he doesn't consider himself retired.

During an event on Monday, Ramirez was asked by Rob Bradford of Baseball Isn't Boring if he's officially out of the game and he replied, "I told you I'm not trying to retire, I need 400 hits for 3,000, I need to come back!"

Ramirez has 2,574 career hits, so it's understandable that the 3,000-hit club remains on his mind. The last time he recorded over 100 hits in a season was in 2009, so he would have a long way to go if he wanted to pursue his goal.

Of course, Ramirez was speaking in jest. The 51-year-old continued to play internationally after his days in MLB came to an end, but his playing days are well behind him.

Ramirez has appeared on the balloting for the National Baseball Hall of Fame since 2017, most recently receiving 33.2 percent of the votes in 2023, his highest ever.
