WWE WrestleMania 40 Predictions for Saturday Night's Updated Match Card
WrestleMania 40 will take place over two days this weekend, so the action has been split up in a way meant to make both nights feel special.
Night 1 will host seven matches. Here is the lineup for Saturday:
- Rhea Ripley vs. Becky Lynch (Women's World Championship)
- Gunther vs. Sami Zayn (Intercontinental Championship)
- Judgment Day vs. DIY vs. Awesome Truth vs. New Catch Republic vs. New Day vs. A-Town Downunder (Tag Team Championships)
- Jey Uso vs. Jimmy Uso
- Bianca Belair Jade Cargill and Naomi vs. Asuka, Kairi Sane and Dakota Kai
- Rey Mysterio and Andrade vs. Santos Escobar and Dominik Mysterio
- The Rock and Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins
Let's go through each bout and make some predictions.
Rhea Ripley vs. Becky Lynch
1 of 7For just over a year, Ripley has been the face of the women's division on Raw as the women's world champion. She bested Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania last year to win the title, but now a different Horsewoman is set to challenge her.
Lynch is on a quest to get back to the top of the mountain and sees Ripley as her biggest challenge, not just because The Eradicator holds the title, but because Ripley is one of the few women who may be better than her.
There are two ways this ends. Either Lynch is going to reclaim her top spot, or Ripley is going to prove she has taken The Man's place as the face of the division. With Judgment Day starting to have issues, Ripley should be the one member to win her match this weekend to create more division in the group and set up its eventual demise.
Prediction: Rhea Ripley
Gunther vs. Sami Zayn
2 of 7Gunther has been the most dominant champion in WWE for the better part of two years behind only Reigns. It feels like the right time for him to drop the Intercontinental Championship.
Despite coming up short against The Tribal Chief last year, Zayn has maintained a high level of popularity. Most people in the WWE Universe still want him to have a big title win at WrestleMania, and this is his chance.
The Ring General represents one of the biggest challenges Zayn has faced to date. This is going to be a hard-hitting match, and with any luck, The Underdog from the Underground will leave as the new IC champion.
Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vince will likely be involved, but Zayn may have Alpha Academy to even the odds.
Prediction: Sami Zayn
Six-pack Challenge
3 of 7Ever since winning the titles back in October, Finn Balor and Damian Priest have been the only tag team champions in WWE. It has led to the entire division suffering as a result.
Not only have both sets of titles been unified for far too long, but Balor and Priest barely feel like a tag team despite being allies for a long time. They feel like stablemates but not true tag team partners. Their reign was meant to strengthen Judgment Day as a stable, not these two as a duo.
It's time for a new team to win the gold and no pair would get a better reaction than Awesome Truth. R-Truth reinvigorated the Judgment Day storyline and deserves a big WrestleMania moment for his years of hard work as WWE's best comedy character.
The Miz has also been a reliable performer for WWE, but he has been upping his game over the past year and would make a great tag team champion alongside Truth.
Prediction: Awesome Truth
Jey Uso vs. Jimmy Uso
4 of 7We've seen brothers battle in WWE many times. Bret and Owen Hart fought at WrestleMania 10, and Matt and Jeff Hardy did the same at 'Mania 25. This weekend, the Usos will step into the ring to see which twin is better.
This showdown has been slowly building for an entire year. Once Jey was out of the Bloodline, it was just a matter of time before he and Jimmy found themselves as opponents.
Even though Jey has had more of a singles push on Raw, it feels like WWE wants The Bloodline to head into Sunday at full strength, which is why Jimmy is going to score the win.
Prediction: Jimmy Uso
Bianca Belair, Jade Cargill and Naomi vs. Asuka, Kairi Sane and Dakota Kai
5 of 7The Royal Rumble was Cargill's in-ring debut for WWE, but WrestleMania will see her work her first proper match when she teams with Belair and Naomi to take on Damage CTRL.
We don't need to spend much time explaining why Cargill's team is going to win. It's incredibly obvious WWE wants her to be a big attraction based on how she has been presented, so having her lose this bout seems like an impossibility.
Cargill will probably even be the one to get the pinfall for her team to claim victory.
Prediction: Jade Cargill, Naomi and Bianca Belair
Rey Mysterio and Andrade vs. Santos Escobar and Dominik Mysterio
6 of 7If this match had remained with the original pairing of Rey and Dragon Lee taking on Escobar and Dirty Dom, it could have gone either way. Switching Lee to Andrade changes everything.
El Idolo is still riding the high from his return to WWE during the men's Royal Rumble match, and if WWE sees him as a priority, having him lose at WrestleMania is not an option.
Rey and Andrade will get the win, and it will probably lead to Escobar turning on Dom after the match. We have seen WWE do little things to make it look like Dom may eventually turn back to being a babyface lately, so this could be the first step in that process.
If he loses to his dad and Judgment Day falls apart after 'Mania, which seems to be where this is all heading, then we could see a Mysterio family reunion before SummerSlam.
Prediction: Rey Mysterio and Andrade
Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins vs. The Rock and Roman Reigns
7 of 7When Rhodes heads into his Universal Championship match with Reigns on Sunday, WWE is probably going to try to have the odds stacked against him as much as possible to make his big win that much sweeter, so the outcome of the tag match on Saturday seems kind of obvious.
If Rollins and Rhodes defeat The Rock and Reigns, The Bloodline is banned from ringside during the universal title bout. If Rocky and The Tribal Chief win, then the match will be contested under Bloodline Rules, which basically means anything goes.
Saturday night, The Final Boss is going to show The American Nightmare why he has earned every nickname he has ever been given. Rollins and Rhodes will both head into their respective matches on Sunday battered and bruised after suffering a loss during Night 1.
Prediction: Roman Reigns and The Rock
