"I think the universe was saying, 'Hey, we're going to set your bus on fire and you're still going to go in and wipe the floor with The Bloodline on Saturday. You're still going to do it,'" Rhodes said on the Pat McAfee Show.
Rhodes said he grabbed a picture of his daughter, a picture of his wife and his WrestleMania boots as he was exiting his bus in the middle of the night.
Cody is set for the main event on both nights of WrestleMania 40 this weekend. He'll team with Seth Rollins on Saturday to take on Roman Reigns and The Rock before going one-on-one against Reigns for the undisputed Universal championship on Sunday night.
The weekend is expected to result in the culmination of Rhodes story to become WWE champion, achieving a dream his father, the late Dusty Rhodes, never pulled off.
If Rhodes winds up victorious Sunday night, we'll look back at this as one final obstacle along the way. If he loses, however, it could wind up as an omen.
