Suns Rumors: Eric Gordon Declines $3.4M Suns Contract Option Ahead of NBA Free Agency

Paul KasabianJun 27, 2024

Shooting guard Eric Gordon has reportedly declined his $3.4 million player option to remain with the Phoenix Suns for the 2024-25 season, and he will now enter free agency.

Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reported the news Thursday, noting "multiple contenders" are expected to pursue Gordon once he hits the open market.

The 35-year-old Gordon served as the Suns' sixth man in 2023-24, averaging 11.0 points on 44.3 percent shooting (37.8 percent from three) in 27.8 minutes per game.

Gordon has played 16 NBA seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers, New Orleans Pelicans, Houston Rockets and Phoenix Suns, averaging 15.7 points per game. He won Sixth Man of the Year honors for the Rockets in 2016-17.

Gordon, who was born and raised in Indianapolis, was once one of the top high school basketball players in the nation. He played one season at Indiana before leaving for the NBA draft, where the Clips selected him with the No. 7 overall choice in 2008.

In the present day, Phoenix benefitted from Gordon's efforts to lead the second unit in scoring, but now he's likely headed elsewhere as the veteran tests free agency.
