NFL Insider: Jets' Woody Johnson 'Hellbent on Improving' Offense with Aaron Rodgers

Joseph ZuckerMar 31, 2024

New York Jets co-owner Woody Johnson is expecting the team to make some positive strides offensively in 2024, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini.

"Johnson is hellbent on improving an offense that has ranked in the bottom four in scoring for five straight seasons, which he reiterated to reporters in Orlando," Cimini wrote Sunday.

During the NFL's annual meeting, Johnson spoke positively about what New York has done in free agency.

The Jets have seemingly addressed some of their offensive issues. Guard John Simpson and tackle Tyron Smith should help a porous line, while wide receiver Mike Williams could be a significant addition to the passing game depending on how he looks physically after tearing an ACL.

Cimini pointed to how Johnson and Saleh seemingly have contrasting views on the degree to which the offense will be prioritized.

"It's no different," Saleh said, per Cimini. "I work with all three phases. I separate my day to make sure that I'm in all those meetings to work with the defense, work with special teams and work with offense. You guys can perceive that one how you guys want to, I guess."

The coach is probably out of excuses if the Jets once again miss the playoffs. The front office seems to have learned from its mistake of orienting so much of the roster around Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers is a big variable after his Achilles injury, but the supporting cast around him looks stronger on paper compared to 2023.

It looks as though Saleh will be judged on more than just wins and losses, too.
