Caitlin Clark, Iowa vs. Angel Reese, LSU March Madness Rematch Hyped by CBB Fans
Caitlin Clark's 29 points and 15 assists propelled the No. 1 seed Iowa Hawkeyes to an 89-68 win over the No. 5 seed Colorado Buffaloes on Saturday in the Sweet Sixteen.
And with that, a rematch of last year's national championship will take place.
Earlier in the afternoon in Albany, Flau'jae Johnson (24 points, 12 rebounds) and Angel Reese (16 points, 11 rebounds, four steals) led No. 3 seed LSU to a 78-69 come-from-behind win over No. 2 seed UCLA.
LSU cruised by Iowa 102-85 in last year's title game despite 30 points from Clark. Reese, the tournament's Most Outstanding Player, finished that one with 15 points, 10 boards and five dimes.
Now Clark and the Hawkeyes will look for revenge as both teams search for Final Four appearances.
Clark was nothing short of fantastic on Saturday, posting 29 points, 14 rebounds and six assists. She made 10-of-11 two-pointers as well.
Iowa also never trailed after a Clark jumper just 18 seconds into the game gave Iowa a 2-1 lead. It was all Hawkeyes from that moment forward, with all five starters scoring in double digits en route to a 54 percent shooting performance.
Of note, Hannah Stuelke contributed an 11-point, 10-rebound double-double, and Gabbie Marshall hit 4-of-5 from three en route to 14 points.
Monday's Elite Eight game, which will occur at 7 p.m. ET from Albany's MVP Arena, likely won't be as easy. But it will be one of the most anticipated games since last year's national championship, and fans are rightly pumped:
The winner will head to Cleveland for this year's Final Four, which will take place on Friday, April 5.
