NFL Scout: Spencer Rattler Could Be Round 2 Pick amid Latest 2024 Draft Rumors

South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler's pro-day throwing session may have boosted his draft stock.

"I think a team may take a chance on him somewhere in Round 2," an anonymous scout from an AFC team told ESPN's Jordan Reid.

Although he entered college as one of the top high school recruits in the country, Rattler underwhelmed at Oklahoma before wrapping up a commendable senior season with South Carolina in 2023.

In 12 games, the 23-year-old completed 68.9 percent of his throws for 3,186 yards while recording 19 touchdowns compared to eight interceptions. He also racked up 104 more yards on the ground, finding the end zone an additional four times as a runner.

Rattler seemingly improved his draft range by winning Senior Bowl MVP, although a poor showing at the scouting combine in Indianapolis didn't help much. He recorded a 40-yard dash time of 4.95 seconds as well as a vertical jump of 32".

However, his pro day performance appeared to leave a strong impression on a large audience. Representatives from all 32 NFL teams were present at the Gamecocks' pro day (via Reid).

In the latest mock draft from Bleacher Report's NFL Scouting Department, Rattler fell to the third round before he was selected by the Denver Broncos with the No. 76 overall pick.

B/R NFL Scout Derrik Klassen was impressed with Rattler's arm talent despite expressing concerns about his overall athleticism.

"Overall, Rattler's arm is too enticing to pass up for too long," Klassen wrote. "There are only a handful of players who throw with his flexibility and arm strength and accuracy."

While he isn't in the same tier as his fellow quarterback prospects such as Caleb Williams and Drake Maye, Rattler could end up hearing his name called early on Day 2 after seemingly improving his draft range.
