NFL Rumors: Foye Oluokun, Jaguars Agree to New 4-Year, $45M Contract in Free Agency

Adam WellsMar 29, 2024

Linebacker Foye Oluokun has agreed to a new long-term contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, Oluokun will sign a four-year, $45 million deal that includes $22.5 million fully guaranteed at signing and ties him to the Jaguars through the 2027 season.

Oluokon was entering the final season of his three-year, $45 million contract he signed with the Jaguars in March 2022. The deal had no more guaranteed money remaining and three void years from 2025 to '27.

One of the primary reasons for this deal from the Jaguars' perspective is to lower Oluokon's cap hit for next season. His $21.8 million cap charge is the fourth-highest on the team, behind Christian Kirk ($24.2 million), Josh Allen ($24 million) and Cam Robinson ($21.9 million).

Allen's cap hit will almost certainly go down if he signs a long-term deal. The $24 million he is currently counting against the cap is from the franchise tag, though he has yet to sign the one-year tender.

Oluokon has been a tackling machine dating back to his final season with the Atlanta Falcons in 2021. He's recorded at least 173 combined tackles in each of the past three years, including leading the league in 2021 (192) and 2022 (184).

His 239 solo tackles over the past two seasons are 30 more than any other player in the NFL during that span.

The Jaguars have a good foundation on defense. Allen and Travon Walker combined for 27.5 sacks last season. Oluokon covers the second level of the field.

If they have a good draft to fill out some of the other areas on the field, the Jaguars could be in position to challenge the Houston Texans for the top spot in the AFC South next season.
