Warriors' Draymond Green: 'Appreciate My Dawgs' Defeating Magic After Ejection

Adam WellsMar 28, 2024

Draymond Green was happy to see the Golden State Warriors get a much-needed win over the Orlando Magic on Wednesday night in a game that he was ejected from less than four minutes into the first quarter.

The four-time All-Star called it a "great" win and appreciated "my dawgs holding it down!"

Green received two technical fouls for arguing with an official after Paolo Banchero drew a foul against Stephen Curry.

There wasn't much pushback from the Warriors about Green's ejection. Head coach Steve Kerr told reporters after the game it was "unfortunate," but he "deserved it."

Curry, who was visibly upset on the court when Green was ejected, said afterward the Warriors "need him" to get where they hope to go this season.

Crew chief Mitchell Irvin explained the decision to assess Green two technical fouls.

"After a prolonged diatribe, Green directed egregious profane language towards a game official," Irvin said, who also noted Green's history had no impact on the decision to eject him on Wednesday night.

It was Green's first ejection since he missed 16 games after being suspended indefinitely for striking Phoenix Suns center Jusuf Nurkić in the face during a game on Dec. 12.

Moses Moody and Gary Payton II picked up a lot of slack off the bench with Green unavailable for most of the game. They combined for 22 points, with Payton shooting a perfect 5-of-5 from the field.

Curry didn't have his best game with just 17 points on 6-of-18 shooting, but he scored on back-to-back possessions in the final 70 seconds to seal the 101-98 win for Golden State.

The Warriors (38-34) are trying to hold off the Houston Rockets, who have won 10 straight games, for the No. 10 seed and final spot in the Western Conference play-in tournament. They lead the Rockets by one game with just over two weeks remaining in the regular season.
