Jayden Daniels Wears Greg Brooks Jr.'s No. 3 at Pro Day; LSU DB Has Brain Cancer

Jayden Daniels had his pro day on Wednesday, but he wasn't just thinking about his NFL prospects.

The quarterback wore No. 3, which is the number of his LSU teammate, Greg Brooks Jr. ESPN's Katherine Terrell noted Brooks, who played defensive back for the Tigers, was diagnosed with brain cancer in the fall.

"He's thinking outside of just Jayden Daniels," LSU head coach Brian Kelly told reporters. "He's thinking about one of his teammates that he holds in high regard and that's the way he's been since he got here. He's always thinking about his teammates first."

Kyle Richardson of USA Today's Tigers Wire noted Brooks Jr. underwent brain surgery in October after he was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer.

Kelly provided an update regarding the defensive back's status on Saturday.

"We haven't gotten much information over the last month because of where he is," the coach said. "We know he's in intensive daily rehabilitation. He's up, walking, doing all those things. Doing all of the occupational rehabilitation. It's just a slow process. But everything is coming back. It's just a slow, slow process."

Daniels and Brooks arrived at LSU as part of the same transfer class ahead of the 2022 season. Daniels started his collegiate career at Arizona State, while Brooks started at Arkansas.

As Nick Schultz of On3 noted, the quarterback also thanked his teammate for inspiration during his Heisman Trophy acceptance speech and said, "I wanted to end on a special thank you to Greg Brooks Jr. and his family. You gave me inspiration to continue on this journey to greatness and keep fighting. Thank you."

Daniels won that Heisman Trophy for his efforts during the 2023 season when he completed 72.2 percent of his passes for 3,812 yards, 40 touchdowns and four interceptions while running for 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns.

He rose up NFL draft boards, and B/R's NFL Scouting Department projected him as the No. 3 overall pick to the New England Patriots in a mock draft earlier this month.
