Projecting the Most Likely Heel and Face Turns at WWE WrestleMania XL

Kevin BergeApr 4, 2024

No show is more important to WWE than WrestleMania. This is the time for the company to deliver some of the biggest moments of the year.

These can include shocking results, dramatic betrayals and even redemption stories.

WrestleMania 40 will be no different. Over the stacked two-night event in Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia this weekend, the top names in the business will clash, seeking their 'Mania moment.

Will The Rock turn on Roman Reigns when it matters most? Is there a possibility Seth Rollins hates Cody Rhodes enough to side with The Bloodline? Could Chad Gable or Liv Morgan betray the fans for selfish revenge?

These are just a few of the exciting possible heel and face turns that could come out of a stacked WrestleMania 40.

Face: Any Bloodline Member Not Named Roman Reigns

1 of 6

Who will turn on Roman Reigns before WrestleMania 40 is complete? The possibility is strong that one or even multiple members of the family will no longer acknowledge The Tribal Chief.

Jimmy Uso is the most likely culprit. He will go one-on-one with his brother, Jey Uso, at The Show of Shows, and it's hard to believe they will not reconcile by the end of the fight.

Solo Sikoa has spent too much time on the outside of this angle to make a serious impact by turning, but he could choose The Rock over Reigns when it matters most.

The Great One has established himself so well as a heinous old-school heel, so he's unlikely to let that go at WrestleMania. However, he could still choose to help Cody Rhodes over following Reigns any longer.

The Bloodline story has reached its likely climax, and a dramatic turn will come to shift the tide for the new WWE year after WrestleMania. The results of that turn could change the company for months and years to come.

Heel: Chad Gable

Chad Gable is not technically working on the WrestleMania card, but he has a clear focus on Gunther vs. Sami Zayn.

No one wants to dethrone The Ring General more than the Alpha Academy leader, and he has offered Zayn his services to train him to beat Gunther.

While Zayn is now working with Gable, it is possible that the Olympian will turn on the No. 1 contender to the Intercontinental Championship for stealing his 'Mania spotlight from him.

Gable needs something to get him back on top. A dramatic heel turn on one of the top babyfaces in WWE could be just the thing.

This would already be reinforced by how much Gable has distanced himself from his current Alpha Academy allies, who have been competing without him for weeks.

However, turning villain would make it less likely that Gable will ultimately dethrone the heel champion Gunther, which would be a shame.

Heel: Liv Morgan

3 of 6

Liv Morgan is another babyface who is missing from the WrestleMania card despite her primary rival defending gold on the show.

While Morgan seemed to reconcile with Becky Lynch, it's still possible that she will be so blinded by her hatred for Rhea Ripley that she cannot let anyone else beat her.

The Man is one of the best wrestlers in the world and will push Mami to her limit. However, WWE has plenty more story left to tell with Ripley as women's world champion.

Morgan saving Ripley and taking out Lynch would fuel months of interconnected storylines that can keep the Raw women's division exciting for some time to come.

Heel: Randy Orton or Kevin Owens

4 of 6

Randy Orton has always been a more natural heel than a face. While Logan Paul is his primary rival going into WrestleMania, Kevin Owens is in his way.

In a Triple Threat, all three men will be fighting hard to emerge victorious. The Viper could take it as a personal insult if The Prizefighter costs him the United States Championship.

The same is true for KO, who has rarely worked well with others. Turning on Orton would be easier than every time he has taken out his best friend, Sami Zayn.

While Orton and KO are not strangers to one another, they have never had a major singles feud. SmackDown would get a major boost from the two men bringing their intensity to a feud that could culminate at Backlash France on May 4.

This is all assuming WWE wants Paul to move on from his rivalry with Orton after 'Mania. The other option is continuing that story beyond The Show of Shows, with The Viper remaining a fan favorite while Owens moves on to another angle.

Face: Dakota Kai

5 of 6

Dakota Kai is the most unpredictable element of the Damage CTRL storyline going into WrestleMania.

While she turned on Bayley recently to realign with Iyo Sky, Asuka and Kairi Sane, this could be a ruse to set her up to play the key role in the WWE Women's Championship match.

It is far from a certainty, but Kai has shown often that she is unafraid to betray anyone. Perhaps she will even have a change of heart for the sake of her mentor on The Grandest Stage of Them All.

Some major twists and turns are certain in the coming months for the SmackDown women's division, and a face turn by Kai would certainly shake things up.

Heel: Seth Rollins

6 of 6

Seth Rollins has never shied away from his true feelings for Cody Rhodes. The two have been fighting since the day The American Nightmare returned to WWE two years ago.

Despite this, The Visionary has promised he will stand with Rhodes against The Bloodline for the sake of WWE.

Is this a ruse? While Rollins and Roman Reigns have fought many times, they are also as close as brothers after rising up the ranks in WWE together.

At every stage, The Tribal Chief and Paul Heyman have teased that The Visionary is untrustworthy. That would be proved if Rollins walked out on Rhodes at 'Mania.

While this would complicate The Visionary's match with Drew McIntyre for the World Heavyweight Championship on Night 2, it would not be hard to root for The Scottish Warrior in the most important match of his career.

While McIntyre cannot fully turn face while CM Punk is waiting to feud with him, he could play the face for the night as the veteran who just wants his moment at The Show of Shows.
