McCain's performance was highlighted by 30 points and eight successful three-pointers. This set a program record for most three-pointers made in an NCAA Tournament game.
He finished 8-of-11 from three-point range, 10-of-15 overall shooting and also added five rebounds.
This performance didn't come out of the blue, as he averaged 13.5 points and five rebounds during the regular season and was named to the ACC All-Freshman team. However, his electric output did have fans questioning why he didn't win the ACC Freshman of the Year Award, an honor that went to Notre Dame's Markus Burton.
However, the main dialogue focused on praising McCain's performance and referring to it as one to remember.
Duke advances to the Sweet 16 for the first time in the Jon Scheyer era. The Blue Devils will face either Houston or Texas A&M in the next round.
