No. 13 Yale Stuns March Madness Fans with Upset Win over Bruce Pearl, No. 4 Auburn

Another top SEC seed is out before the Round of 32.

No. 4 Auburn lost 78-76 to No. 13 Yale in a first-round Friday upset that stunned Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl and March Madness fans.

Some fans decided to bandwagon Yale after the team's second NCAA tournament win in school history.

Junior guard John Poulakidas led the Bulldogs with 28 points in the victory.

Others felt sad for Auburn, which will miss the second round of the NCAA tournament for the first time in three seasons.

With the chance to tie the game in the final seconds, Auburn missed two crucial free throws.

Junior forward Johni Broome finished what could be his last game for Auburn with 24 points, 13 rebounds and four assists.

Most fans were just happy to see yet another upset turning first-round locks into must-watch events.

Auburn's loss continued a pattern of early eliminations for SEC teams after No. 3 Kentucky was upset Thursday by No. 14 Oakland.

The upset was seen as a blow for SEC commissioner Greg Sankey, who has indicated he wants to see more power conference teams and fewer automatic mid-major qualifiers in future NCAA tournaments.

Yale will now take on SDSU on Sunday.

The No. 5 Aztecs are headed to the Round of 32 after defeating the UAB Blazers 69-65 Friday. Tip-off time is still to be determined.
