O'Neal congratulated Durant on the accomplishment, offering the Suns star praise in a video.

"First of all, I want to say congratulations for passing me to become eighth on the NBA's all-time scoring list," O'Neal said. "Well deserved, but you know it doesn't stop here ... See if you can get to No. 1."

O'Neal scored 28,596 career points in 1,207 games. Durant surpassed that total in 1,047 games and is within striking distance of a few others. Wilt Chamberlain sits in seventh with 31,419 points. LeBron James has the all-time mark with 40,179 points, a number he keeps adding to as an active player.
