Report: Kadyn Proctor to Return to Alabama After Leaving Iowa in CFB Transfer Portal

Erin WalshMar 20, 2024

It appears Kadyn Proctor is returning to the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Proctor, who joined the Iowa Hawkeyes in January after entering the transfer portal, is expected to return to Alabama when the second transfer portal window opens, according to David Eickholt of 247Sports.

"It is unfortunate that Kadyn has informed us of his intentions to leave our program today," Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz said in a statement on Tuesday, per ESPN's Adam Rittenberg. "We wish him well in the future."

Proctor initially entered his name into the transfer portal after Nick Saban announced his retirement following 17 years as Alabama's head coach.

The 19-year-old was ranked the No. 1 offensive tackle and No. 2 player overall in the transfer portal by 247Sports.

This marks the second time Iowa has missed out on Proctor's services. The offensive lineman grew up in Des Moines, Iowa, as a fan of the program and idolized Tristan Wirfs. He verbally committed to the Hawkeyes in June 2022 before flipping to Alabama.

Proctor started at left tackle for the Crimson Tide in 2023 and was named to the SEC All-Freshman team. He returns to a Crimson Tide team that is now led by former Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer, who agreed to an eight-year, $87 million contract ($10.9 million per year) with the program.

Proctor will help stabilize a Crimson Tide offensive line that also includes Elijah Pritchett, Tyler Booker and Jaeden Roberts. He'll be protecting the likes of Jalen Milroe and Tyler Buchner under center.

As for Iowa, losing Proctor is a tough blow for the Hawkeyes as the team's offensive line has struggled in recent seasons. The program will rely on Mason Richman, Nick DeJong, Logan Jones and Connor Colby in 2024.
